Walter's Obituary

Walter E. (Wally) Schirmer, Jr., 80, of Buchanan died Friday, May 13, 2016 at home.  He was born January 7, 1936 in Chicago, Illinois to the late Walter E. and Dorothy Dirschmidt Schirmer.  Wally is survived by one sister, Ann York, and two nephews, Ron and David York, all of Buchanan. Prior to his retirement Wally had been employed in the finance department of the former Clark Equipment Company in Buchanan.  He was an avid gun collector and enjoyed the out of doors, which included spending time at his property at Reed City, Michigan where his lifetime friend Ralph Hurley would join him.  Together they would share past events and stories of a life they shared growing up in Buchanan. He was a graduate of Western Michigan University and has served in the U.S. Army following the Korean War. A Celebration of Life service will be held at Swem Chapel on Wednesday, May 18, at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Edwin Brinklow of First Presbyterian Church officiating. Friends may visit one hour prior to the service at Swem Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to the Walter E.
