Richard Paul “Dick” Post, a lifetime resident of Buchanan, Michigan, passed away in St. Joseph, Michigan, on Monday, May 2, 2016, at the age of 90.
Mr. Post was preceded in death by his father, H.J. Post; mother, Milre (Windbigler) Post; and sisters, Francis Stallman, Barbara Glossinger and Ruth Hoyng.
Richard is survived by his loving wife, Anna Mae Post, of 69 years. He is lovingly remembered by his children Carolyn Lamb, of Aurora Colorado, Kathleen Mehl of Southgate, Michigan, Rachele (Richard) Dugger, of Granger, Indiana, and Douglas (Chris) Post, of Gig Harbor, Washington; as well as 6 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Kathryn Jenkins of Dayton, Ohio.
Richard was born in Niles Township, Michigan on August 28, 1925. He graduated from Buchanan High School in 1943. Upon graduation, he joined the Seabees of the United States Navy and was discharged with the rank of Carpenter’s Mate 3/C. Richard married Anna Mae Heiney at Saint Anthony’s Catholic Church, Buchanan, Michigan on September 21, 1946.
Former owner of Post Products and True Value Hardware, Mr. Post, a World War II veteran, was a life time member of V.F.W. Post 3102, American Legion Post 51, and St. Anthony’s Catholic Church. Richard’s community involvement included being a charter member of the Buchanan Jaycees and past president of the Buchanan School Board. His passions were spending time with his family, traveling and fishing.
Visitation will be held at Swem Chapel, 301 West Front Street, Buchanan, Michigan on Thursday, May 5, 2016 from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Saint Anthony Catholic Church, 509 W. 4th St., Buchanan, on Friday May 6, 2016 at 11:00 a.m., with the Reverend Richard Altine officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Baruch Senior Ministries, 3196 Kraft Ave. SE, Suite 203, Grand Rapids, Michigan 49512.
