Rex's Obituary

Rex Lee Best, 72, of Niles died Thursday, September 22 at St Joseph Regional Medical Center in Mishawaka. He was born April 9, 1944 in Buchanan to the late Robert Lee and Barbara Jean Houston who preceded him in death. On May 19, 1962 in Buchanan he married Mary Ellen Coffinger who survives along with a daughter Donna (William) Gallippo of South Bend, a son Scott (Patricia) Best of Elkhart, Indiana. He is also survived by a brother Tim Best of Niles, six grandchildren: Adam, Bryan, Josh, Eric, Jordan, Rob and three great-grandchildren: Sawyer, Brantley, and Kal’El. A brother Tom preceded him in death. Rex farmed in Bertrand Township and was active in 4-H in both Berrien & Cass Counties. He and his wife Mary Ellen wintered in Fla. and together they made many friends who were also involved in the operating and setting up concession stands. A service to celebrate his life will be at 1:00 p.m. Monday, September 26 at Faith United Methodist Church where friends may begin calling two hours prior to the service. Pastor Edward Slate will officiate. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made Faith United Methodist Church or Berrien County Youth Fair.
