Marcia Sue Burns

Marcia Sue Burns, 75, of Galien passed away on Friday, July 29, 2016 at Memorial Hospital in South Bend, IN. A Celebration of Life Service will take place at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, August 3, 2016 at Olive Branch United Methodist Church, 2289 Olive Branch Rd., Galien, with Pastor Cliff Radtke officiating. Burial will follow at Galien Cemetery.  Friends may visit with the family from 4 PM until 8 PM on Tuesday, August 2, 2016 at Swem Chapel, 301 W. Marcia was born on November 15, 1940 in Peoria, IL to Harold & Martha (Louis) Benz. She graduated from the Academy of Our Lady High School in 1959.  She continued her education at Marycrest College in Davenport, IA and earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree.  Marcia went on to earn her Masters in Library Science from River Forest College. On a very snowy December 30, 1972, Marcia married the love of her life, Arvie Burns.  For 42 years, she worked at and retried from St. Mary’s College in South Bend, IN as an Acquisitions & Periodicals Librarian.  During her time working there she chaperoned St. Mary students to over 39 different countries.  Marcia was a proud member of the Culpepper’s Angels of Confederate Air Force where she and Arvie would restore old wartime planes.  She was also an active member of the Olive Branch Methodist Church.  Marcia enjoyed knitting, crocheting, reading, and watching Star Wars, John Wayne & Humphrey Bogart. Marcia is survived by her children, Donald Burns of Niles and Jean Wordinger of Niles; grandchildren, Scott (Kristen), Celeste and Stephanie Wordinger, and Aaron Burns and Kari (Major Craig) Hackbarth; and great-grandchildren, Emerie, Flynn, Collin and Olivia. Marcia was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and step-son, Steven Burns.
