Albert's Obituary
Albert Siekman Jr., 88, of Buchanan, MI was born May, 2, 1928 in Niles, MI to the late Albert & Elsie (Griechen) Siekman and died Tuesday, September 6, 2016 at Hanson Hospice Center in Stevensville, MI. On December 25, 1948 in Buchanan he married Geraldine Smith, they celebrated 67 years of marriage in December 2015. Survivors include his wife Geraldine and his children Robert (Cheri) Siekman of Grand Rapids, MI, Diana (Gene de la Foret) Siekman of St Joseph, MI and David (Grace) Siekman of Niles, MI, six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; niece Connie James & nephew Nick (Mary) Siekman, both of Niles. He was preceded in death by two brothers Jack and Tom Siekman.
Al was the spiritual leader and pillar of strength for his family. He was considered by many to be one of the finest toolmakers in the area. Al was a superintendent at Clark Equipment Company in Buchanan, MI, from which he retired after 30 years. Al wanted to pass his skills on to those interested and taught his skills in the apprenticeship program. Along with his skills of being a toolmaker he was master of many trades. Al loved vegetable gardening. Being the man that he was, he passed his strong work ethic down to his children. Al loved skiing and was Patrol Director at Royal Valley Ski Resort. Al loved to serve his community and served as Bertrand Township Supervisor and was a volunteer at Pears Mill. He also served as President of the Church Board where he was baptized in and a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church all of his life. Al is a veteran of the United States Navy. The family will receive friends on Thursday, September 8, 2016 from 4 – 8 PM at Swem Chapel in Buchanan, MI. The funeral service will be held 11:00 AM on Friday, September 9, 2016 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Buchanan, MI with Pastor Daniel Barz officiating. Please join the family and friends directly following the burial at Oak Ridge Cemetery for a luncheon and gathering at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.
