Thomas's Obituary
Thomas M. Geiger entered the gates of Heaven to meet his personal Lord on Wednesday Feb. 22, 2017. Tom was born Nov. 7, 1930 in Mishawaka, IN. He was the son of Chauncey and Carol Geiger. Tom grew up in Edwardsburg, MI. At the age of seventeen he entered Great Lakes Naval Training Center.
On June 28, 1953 he married Marion Ruple of Dowagiac, MI. They established their home in Niles, MI where they raised three children. They later moved to Edwardsburg, MI to remodel the farm where Tom was raised. They celebrated 57 years together. Tom is survived by his daughter, Rhonda Neal (Niles) and son, Rod (Melissa) Geiger of Massillon, OH. Surviving grandchildren include Amanda Neal of South Bend, IN and BreeAnna (Nathan) Walter of Dallas, IA, as well as Jordon Geiger of Columbus, OH and Brooke Geiger of Massillon, OH. Samantha Neal is his only great grandchild. Other survivors include brother, Frank Geiger and sister, Esther Peters and several nieces and nephews along with many friends. Tom’s parents, Chauncey and Carol, brother Oliver and sister Martha, as well as his beloved son, Rick Dean preceded him in death.
Tom was a quiet servant. His work ethic was impeccable. He grew up on a farm and loved working outside. He was gifted with his hands in building, repair work, and mechanics. One of his greater joys was building a log splitter. He learned to cook when his wife became ill and served beyond his comfort. After Marion passed away, Tom moved to his sister’s home for camaraderie and to meet life challenges together.
He retired as owner/operator of Area exterminating in Niles Michigan and from Harris Prairie Christian Church of Granger, Indiana where he served as custodian for nine years. He also drove truck for many years and served as a laborer at various sites, including Cook Nuclear Power Plant for ten years.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Buchanan Christian Church in Buchanan, Michigan on Saturday, March 11, 2017 at 11:00 a.m.
A private committal service for family members will be held at Mission Hills Memorial Gardens in Niles, MI, where Thomas will be laid to rest. Memorial contributions may be made to Michiana Christian Service Camp in Niles, MI in lieu of flowers. Tom spent numerous volunteer hours working at the camp and his wife served as a cook. His children and grandchildren attended as campers. The legacy continues as his great granddaughter has begun her years as a camper. The camp serves as a bedrock for building faith for the entire Geiger family.
On line condolences to the family can be sent to: www.Swem Chapel.com. The family of Tom Geiger rejoices that he is in the presence of God. We loved him and thank God for the shared years. Tom’s journey is now complete.
