Robert J. Hamilton

Robert J. Hamilton, 90, of Buchanan, passed away on Tuesday, January 24, 2017 at Lakeland Community Hospital, Niles. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, January 28, 2017 at Buchanan First United Methodist Church with Pastor Rob McPherson officiating. Military rights will be rendered by the Buchanan American Legion, Post 51 and the United States Air Force. Visitation will be held from 5-8 P.M. on Friday, January 27, 2017 at Swem Chapel and Cremation services. Memorial contributions may be made to Buchanan First United Methodist Church. Online condolences may be made at www.swemchapel.com. Robert was born on March 13, 1926 to the late Leland and Mildred Hamilton in Ravenna, OH. He graduated from Niles High School in 1944. Robert then enlisted in the U.S Air Force where he served in an Army Airways Communication System and attained the rank of Sergeant. After being honorably discharged he attended Western Michigan University. On August 12, 1950 he married Janice Elain Rizor. Robert worked as a serviceman for Michigan Power Company from 1959 until his retirement in 1988. He was a lifetime member at Buchanan First United Methodist Church. Robert is survived by his children, Steve (Ellinor) Hamilton, Debora Hamilton, Carol (Daniel) Hoffman, Sandra Blake, Michelle (Kevin) Burns and Mark (Lindy) Hamilton; sister, Carol (Greg) Dellinger; nineteen grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren. He was preceded by his parents; wife, Janice; brother, Leland Hamilton and son-in-law, David Allen Blake.
