James's Obituary

James T. Simpson, 90, of Buchanan, passed away on Thursday, May 4, 2017 at Memorial Hospital, South Bend. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 4 PM on Tuesday, May 9, 2017 at Swem Chapel and Cremation Services with Pastor Ed Slate officiating. Full military honors will be rendered by the Buchanan American Legion Post 51 and the United States Army. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 2-4 PM. Burial will take place at 10 AM on Wednesday, May 10, 2017 at Oak Ridge Cemetery, Buchanan. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Buchanan Area Senior Center, 810 Rynearson St., Buchanan, MI 49107. Jim was born on February 28, 1927 to the late Cecil and Beulah (Singleton) Simpson in Finley, Tennessee. He was a United States Army Veteran and served in WWII. On January 24, 1945 he married Eudora Seratt in Osceola, Arkansas. He retired from Clark Equipment Company after 30 years of service. Jim was proud that he was retired for longer than he worked. He was a lifetime member of the Buchanan American Legion Post 51, Charter member of Buchanan Township Fire Department for several years, and also volunteered at the Buchanan Area Senior Center where he enjoyed spending time with his many friends. He was loved by many and didn’t know a stranger. Jim was a family man and enjoyed spending time with his family. James is survived by his daughter, Alice (Budd) Hopkins; sister, Martha Crunk; son in law, Gary McCleland, Sr.; grandchildren, Cassie Compeau, Craig (Julie) Lear, Chellie (Vic) Estrada, Mark Compeau, Rick (Candy) Whitmire, Joede Covyeou, Raychel (Tom) Bogaert, Jimmy (Kristen) McCleland, Gary (Michelle) McCleland, Jr., Beth (Kip) Prast, Seth McCleland Tammy (Derick) Pence; twenty four great-grandchildren; twenty great great-grandchildren, one on the way and many nieces and nephews.. He was preceded in death by his wife, Eudora Simpson; daughter, Patricia McCleland; son, Donnie Simpson and sisters, Opal Searfoss, Louise Robinson and Ileane Zaricor.
