Homer's Obituary

Homer W. Taylor, 93, of Buchanan, passed away on Monday, March 20, 2017 at Battle Creek VA Medical Center. A time of visitation will be held on Friday, March 24, 2017 at Swem Chapel and Cremation Services, Buchanan from 10 AM – 12 PM. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at noon on Friday, March 24, 2017 also at the funeral home with Pastor Rob McPherson officiating. An Interment will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery with full military honors, rendered by the Buchanan American Legion Post 51 and the United States Army. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Buchanan American Legion Post 51. Those wishing to leave online condolences may do so at www.swemchapel.com Homer was born on June 10, 1923 in Somerset, OH to the late Monford and Marie Taylor. On October 13, 1942 he enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps where he was a tail gunner on a B-17 and honorably discharged on October 22, 1945 as a Staff Sergeant 547 Bomb Squadron. Homer was a prisoner of war in Germany during WWII for over thirteen months. In 1946 he married Pauline “Polly” Smith, she preceded him in death on October 19, 2013. He was a lifetime member of American Legion Post 51 and VFW Post 3102 both of Buchanan and a teamster member since 1947. Homer enjoyed playing euchre and traveling, he would always take the back roads wherever he went. Homer is survived by his sons; Hollie (Clara) Taylor and William (Brenda) Taylor; nine grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Robert Taylor and Sister, Lucilla Crow.
