Lorina's Obituary
Lorina Jane (Matthews) Sherman/Raas, “Jane”, passed away early August 13th surrounded by her loving family at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center.
Jane had a heart of gold and brightened any room as soon as she walked in. She could spark up a conversation with anyone and as a result would recognize or be recognized by someone wherever she went. She loved and was loved by many.
Jane was born January 26, 1931 in Buchanan to Henry and Helen (Hartline) Matthews. Helen passed away when Jane was only 3 years old. Henry married Mamie Baldwin in 1935 and Mamie raised Jane like her own daughter. Jane was a member of the Olive Branch United Methodist Church in Galien and made many lifelong friends. There she also met her first husband Donald Sherman at an ice cream social. They were married March 18, 1950 at Olive Branch. He passed away in 1977 after 27 wonderful years of marriage. Jane later married Sheldon Raas March 16, 1985 in New Carlisle. They spent many days with friends and family at their lake house. Sheldon passed away in 1993.
A celebration of life homegoing service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, August 16th, 2018, at Olive Branch United Methodist Church, 2239 Olive Branch Rd, Galien, MI. Friends and family may visit one hour prior. Burial will follow at Galien Township Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to Olive Branch UMC, in lieu of flowers. The family would also like to thank her second family of caregivers at West Woods of Niles.
She was survived by her son, Daniel (Kathleen) Sherman of St. Joseph; daughters, Debra (David) Koenigshof of Tabor, SD , Stacy (Brian) Gulliver of Niles; step-daughter, Susan Raas; grandchildren: Jeffrey (Heather) Koenigshof, Jason (Gloria) Koenigshof, Joshua Koenigshof, Sarah (Justin) Nupen, Justin (Kayla) Koenigshof, Kathryn Sherman; step-grandson Craig Raas; and 8 great grandchildren.
She was preceded by her husbands: Donald Sherman and Sheldon Raas; brother, Allen Matthews; sister, Marian Matthews; son, Matthew Allen Sherman; and stepson, Dennis Raas.
