Herman's Obituary
Herman Jacquez, 88, of Buchanan, MI passed away Thursday, October 4, 2018 at Lakeland Hospital in Niles.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1:00 P.M., Monday, October 8, 2018 at Swem Chapel, 301 W. Front St., Buchanan, MI with Pastor Ellen Bierlein officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Buchanan. Friends may visit from 11:00 A.M. until 1:00 P.M., Monday at the funeral home. Herman was born September 30, 1930 in Lynch, KY to Frank & Candelaria (Alvarado) Jacquez. He graduated from Fairmont High School then went on to receive his Bachelor’s degree from Fairmont State College in West Virginia. He served his country during the Korean War in the United States Navy. On February 4, 1955 he married Mary Wood in Oakland, Maryland. Herman was a computer pioneer and is a member of the Univac Hall of Fame. He retired from Clark Equipment after 30 years of service.
He was an active member of the American Legion Post 51 having served on the Honor Guard, 2 term Legion Commander, and other Legion positions. Herman was a sports enthusiast, trivia expert, and avid West Virginia football fan. He played football for Fairmont State, men’s softball, and loved golfing. Herman was a loyal follower of his children’s and grandchildren’s sports and rarely missed a game.
Herman is survived by his children Frank (Jonnie) Jacquez of Cary, NC., David Jacquez of Edwardsburg, MI., Craig (Wendy) Jacquez of Defiance, MO., Denise (Andrew) Bachleda of Bridgman, MI., and Susan (Robert) Dean of Green Bay, WI; 13 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren with one on the way; brothers Sam (Helen) Jacquez and Morris Jacquez; and sister Virginia (Bob) Radcliff.
Herman was preceded in death by his parents, wife Mary and brother Henry Jacquez.
