Marietta J. Allen

Marietta J. Allen, 85, of Buchanan, passed away on Wednesday, December 12, 2018, at West Woods of Niles. A celebration of life will take place at noon on Monday, December 17, 2018, at Swem Chapel, 301 W. Front St., Buchanan, MI with pastor David Habicht officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery, Buchanan. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service from 11-noon. Memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society or the Alzheimer’s Association. Those wishing to send a condolence online may do so at www.swemchapel.com Marietta was born on August 1, 1933 to George and Mildred (Parmelee) VandenBosch in Allegan, MI. On September 27, 1953 she married Richard Allen in Buchanan. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Buchanan. Marietta worked as a nurse at St. Mary’s College and was a foster parent to 86 infants. She was also very talented with music and art. Marietta enjoyed using her talents with ceramics, cake decorating and many other things. She also loved dancing. Most of all, Marietta cherished her family. Marietta is survived by her children, Richard (Joanne) Allen, Robert (Martha) Allen, Robin (Jerry) Gushwa and John Allen; sixteen grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Mildred VandenBosch and husband, Richard Allen.
