Eleanor's Obituary

Eleanor G. Schwab, 90, of Niles, passed away on Friday, January 4, 2019, at Woodland Terrace at Longmeadow. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Thursday, January 10, 2019, at 3PM at Swem Chapel & Cremation Services, 301 W. Front St., Buchanan, with Pastor Ellen Bierlein officiating. Burial will take place at Oakridge Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family on Thursday, January 10, 2019, from 1PM until time of service at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Buchanan First United Methodist Church. Those wishing to leave a condolence online may do so at www.swemchapel.com. Eleanor was born on September 13, 1928, to Wilbur & Lora (Murry) Guild in Newark, New Jersey. She graduated from South Shore High School in Chicago. Her education continued at Cornell College where she earned her Bachelor’s Degree and then earned her Master’s Degree from Chicago Teacher’s College. On April 21, 1961, Eleanor married William Schwab. She worked as a high school English teacher before her retirement after 23 years of service. Eleanor was a member of Buchanan First United Methodist Church where she was also served on their Women’s Fellowship. She also was a member of the National Rifle Association, Daughters of the American Revolution- Rebecca Dewey Chapter, Reviewers 20 Book Club and 30 Club. Eleanor is survived by her children, Michael (Linda) Blanchard of Niles, Barbara (Simon) Frederick of Buchanan; stepchildren, William “Tim” Schwab and A. Paul Schwab; grandchildren, Emily (Scott Williamson) Rockhill, Kate (George) Nelson, Claire (Zach) Abraham, Will Frederick, Chris (Julie) Frederick and Andrew Frederick; and great-grandchildren, Maggie, Owen & Aidan.
