Gloria J. Van Dyke, 76, of Dowagiac, passed away on Sunday, June 10, 2018, at her home.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday June 16, 2018, at Sacred Heart of Mary Church 51841 Leach Rd., Dowagiac. Friends may visit with the family 5:00 to 9:00 P.M. on Friday June 15, 2018, at Clark Chapel, 405 Center St. Dowagiac, then again on Saturday at 8:00 A.M. until 10:30 A.M. Gloria was born January 24, 1942, to John W. and Mary B. (Morowczynski) Alexa in Cicero, IL. She graduated from Nazareth Academy in 1959 then went on to earn two Master’s Degrees, one from the University of Illinois and one from Rosary College. Gloria worked as a teacher for many years, teaching in Illinois, Indiana and Wisconsin before retirement. On September 12, 1964 she married the late Peter H. Van Dyke in Illinois. She loved to travel and had recently enjoyed a trip to Europe. Gloria was known as kind hearted and thoughtful person who loved life. Most of all she loved her family, especially her grandchildren.
Gloria is survived by her children, Laura (Dan) Wall, Sarah (Rick) Rodriguez and John Van Dyke; grandchildren, James Henry, Alexa Gabrielle, Peter Jacob, Eva Elizabeth and Cassandra Ash; sweetheart companion Jim Bovy and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Peter H. Van Dyke and brother Robert Alexa.
