Arthur J. Walawender, 73, of Cassopolis, passed away at The Timbers of Cass County in Dowagiac on Saturday, August 1, 2015 with his wife, Marie and son Stephen at his side. Friends may visit with the family on Wednesday, August 5, 2015 from 4:00 until 7:00 PM at Clark Chapel and Cremation Services, 405 Center Street, Dowagiac, MI.  Military Honors will take place at 6:30 PM by the United States Army. Arthur was born July 12, 1942 in Auburn, New York to John S. and Helen A. (Bratek) Walawender.  He graduated from high school in 1960 from Auburn East High School.  He was a veteran of the United States Army and served his country proudly from 1963 to 1966. He was the recipient of the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal. On December 7, 2002 he was united in marriage to Marie E. Carter in South Bend, Indiana at the Farmers Market. Both Arthur and Marie spent 14 years working at the Farmers Market in South Bend selling their produce, as he enjoyed the many varieties of vegetables he grew on his farm. Arthur enjoyed bowling and was very proud of the fact that he is of the prestigious “300 Club”, after bowling a perfect game of all strikes. He really enjoyed fishing, especially on the pier at St. Joseph, his favorite catch was salmon. Arthur was quite the worker and everyone referred to him as a “Jack of all Trades”, as he did a little bit of everything when it came to his occupations. He was also an avid Notre Dame fan. He is survived by his wife Marie of 12 years, one son and two daughters; Steve (Lauren) Walawender of Carmel, Indiana, Kristine (Russell) Moore of Baltimore, MD, and Karla (Jason) Paluck of Phoenix, MD. He was the loving grandfather of 5 grandchildren; Megan and Allison Walawender of Carmel, IN and Mason, Meredith and Andrew Moore of Baltimore, MD. He also leaves behind two sisters; Arlene (Mark) Davis of Cranberry Lake, NY and Debbie French of Auburn, NY.
