Richard (“Rich”) N. Lieb, 76, of Dowagiac, MI passed away on Tuesday, October 13, 2015 at his home in Sister Lakes.
His family will receive friends on Friday, October 16 from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. with Prayers at 8:30 p.m. and again Saturday morning, October 17 from 9-10:30 a.m. at Clark Chapel, 405 Center Street, Dowagiac, MI 49047. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, October 17th at 11:00 a.m. with Father Kevin Covert at Sacred Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 51841 Leach Road, Dowagiac, MI 49047. Memorials may be made to Heartland Hospice, 8075 Creekside, Suite 120, Portage, MI 49024. He will be laid to rest in Sacred Heart of Mary Cemetery following Mass. Richard was born July 19, 1939 in Chicago to John and Marie (Ryba) Lieb. He married Joan Curran in Cicero, IL on December 18, 1965. He graduated high school from Riverside Brookfield High School, IL where he was also a top swimmer on the swim team. He served his country in the United States Army and was quite the volleyball player during his time in the Army. He was retired from International Harvester after 30 years of service. Richard was also retired as a special needs bus driver for 15 years. He also served as a Brookfield, IL auxiliary Police Officer for 12 years. Rich was quite the musical singer and enjoyed listening to country-western favorites like George Strait, Don Williams, Ricky Nelson and Elvis. Rich also enjoyed country-western dancing with his wife Joan and also taught dancing as well. He was an Eagle Scout as a youth and a member of the Order of the Arrow. Rich was also a member of the St. Barbara’s Parish in Brookfield, IL and a member of their local Moose lodge.
Richard is survived by his loving wife Joan of almost 50 years, is the loving father of Sandra (Chris) Green, John (Melissa) Lieb, Suzanne Schneider and Deborah Schefske. He was the dear brother of Michael (Theresa) Lieb, Clarence (Gwen) Lieb and Linda (the late Angelo) Valente. Grandfather of Jeremy and Wesley Green, Veronika and Genevieve Lieb, Jake, Justine and Kyle Schneider, Megan and Zachary Schefske. He also leaves behind a great granddaughter Aubrey Jane Mascheri. He was preceded in death by his parents.
