Hedwig Brunkel

Hedwig Brunkel, 81, of Dowagiac, died Monday, January 4, 2016 at her home. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, January 7, 2016 at 12:00 p.m. at Riverside Cemetery in Dowagiac . Clark Chapel, 405 Center Street, Dowagiac, is serving the family. Hedwig was born in Lutzk, Poland on October 28, 1934 to Edmund and Pauline (Radke) Hartwig. In January of 1955 she married Waldemar Brunkel in Dowagiac. She worked for 28 years as a factory worker for the Sundstrand Corporation in Dowagiac as a punch press operator. Hedwig is survived by her two children, Rita Brunkel of Dowagiac and Ronald Brunkel of Indianapolis, IN. She also leaves behind one grand daughter, Melanie (Rob) Kujovich and 3 sisters; Sina Spikze of Detroit, Erika (Werner) Riedel of St. Joseph and Trudy Reed of Bridgman as well as one brother, Herbert (Colleen) Hartwig of Detroit. She is preceded in death by her husband, Waldemar, and her parents.
