Dixie Lee Grayam

Dixie Lee Grayam, 73, of Dowagiac, passed away on Wednesday, January 6, 2016 at St. Joseph Regional Hospital in Mishawaka, IN. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, January 9, 2016 at Clark Chapel & Cremation Services, 405 Center St., Dowagiac, MI with Pastor Chad Benkert officiating.  Burial will follow at a later date at Rose Hill Cemetery, Berrien Springs.  Friends may visit with the family from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm prior to the service at the funeral home. Dixie was born on June 13, 1942 in Berrien Center, MI to Orville and Hazel (Price) Ervin. Dixie was a hard working woman and spent many years in the Dowagiac area. She worked several years as a cafeteria helper in the kitchen at Patrick Hamilton School. She later worked for the Sundstrand Corporation and most recently for Brother’s Bakery in Edwardsburg for 12 years. Dixie loved to bake and make her delicious homemade peanut butter fudge. She loved her family, especially her grandchildren. Dixie also loved volunteering at her apartment complex at Chestnut Towers and prepared many meals for social gatherings there. She was also an honorary member of the Cass County Mounted Division and former member of Dowagiac Eagles. She loved people and helped many however she could. Dixie is survived by five children; Jerry (Karen) Snider of Caro, MI, Barbara Adkins of Sumnerville, MI, Carol Grayam of Edwardsburg, MI, Charles Grayam of Dowagiac and Thomas (Bobbie) Grayam of Rogersville, TN. She also leaves behind 18 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by a sister, Wanda (Darryl) Eichberg of Eau Claire, MI and a brother, James Christy of Eau Claire, MI. Dixie was preceded in death by her parents.
