George Emmons, 91 of Dowagiac died Friday, February 5, 2016 at The Timbers of Cass County.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:30 AM on Tuesday, February 9, 2016 at Clark Chapel, 405 Center Street, Dowagiac, MI. Friends may visit with the family before the service from 10:30 AM until 11:30 AM at the Chapel. Memorial donations may be made to Indian Lake Volunteer Fire Dept. George was born January 8, 1925 in South Bend, IN to George and Lena (Shanton) Emmons. George joined the United States Navy at the age of 16. He served during the invasion of Normandy in World War II. George returned home to finish his education and marry the love of his life, Flossie Welling, in November 1951 in Michigan City, IN. George worked as a machinist, building and repairing factory equipment. He and Flossie moved to Indian Lake near Dowagiac in 1956. George loved his life at the lake staying busy with his three boys swimming, boating, waterskiing, helping the neighbors and making memories with the grandchildren. He also enjoyed hunting up north, birdwatching, walking in his woods and taking pictures of the wildlife he loved. More than anything, George was quietly devoted to his family and friends.
George is survived by his three sons; Galen (Karen) Johnson of Niles, MI, Paul (Paulette) Johnson of North Liberty, IN and Randy (Donna) Emmons of Wagoner, OK; six grandchildren Josh (Aeron) Johnson of North Liberty, IN, Christopher (Lisa) Johnson of Grayslake, IL, Karianne (Douglas) Steffen of Eaton Rapids, MI, Jackie (Tabor) Franco of Granger, IN, Jason (Sarah) Emmons of Lindsay, OK and Tiffany Emmons of Wagner, OK; six great-grandchildren Tyler, Aden, Rylee, Leah, Anna and Justice. He also leaves behind one sister, Donna Clark of Dowagiac. George was preceded in death by his wife, Flossie in 2010 and a sister, Frances in 2012.
