Alice G. Wilk, 91, of Dowagiac, MI, passed away Thursday, August 4, 2016 at The Timbers of Cass County in Dowagiac.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 PM, Thursday, August 11, 2016 at the Sister Lakes Lions Club, 66991 95th Ave, Dowagiac, MI., with Pastor Doug Cuthbert officiating. Friends may visit with the family following the service until 5:00 PM. Memorials may be made to the National Wildlife Federation, PO Box 1691, Merrifield, VA 22116-1691. Alice was born November 13, 1924 in Niles, MI, to David & Vivian (Tobin) Dumas. She graduated from Niles High School in 1942. While taking Arthur Murray Dance School lessons in South Bend, she met Harvey Wilk. They shared a love of dancing and soon began spending more time together. They were married on September 24, 1955 and celebrated 48 years of marriage before his passing in 2004. Alice served during WWII as an Aircraft Communicator for the Civil Aeronautics Administration at the Cleveland airport. Alice worked as a head typist for the Dowagiac Daily News for many years, she then went on to work at the Hedden Bait Company. Alice was a lifelong avid bowler. She was a member of the Sister Lakes Bowl women’s bowling league and continued to bowl up until last year. Alice was a diehard Chicago Cubs fan and she never missed a game, either watching it on TV or listening to it on the radio. She was really looking forward to them winning it all this year. In her free time Alice collected Betty Boop memorabilia,enjoyed solving puzzles, reading and making ceramic gifts for her friends.
Alice is survived by her sons, Terry Wilk of Dowagiac, MI and Bruce (Deb) Wilk of Lansing, MI. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey Wilk; two brothers, Calvin and Floyd Dumas; and a sister, Goldie Dumas-Martin.
