John Edward Murphy, 87, of Dowagiac, MI, passed away on Friday, September 30, 2016 at Hines VA Medical Center, Chicago, IL.
Graveside funeral services, with military honors, will take place on Tuesday, October 18, 2016 at 11am at Riverside Cemetery, Dowagiac. Friends may visit on Monday, October 17, 2016 from 5-7pm at Clark Chapel & Cremation Services, 405 Center St. Dowagiac, MI. Those wishing to share a memory of John may do so at

John was born on April 19, 1929 in Dowagiac to John and Melissa (Monaghan) Murphy. John served in the United States Army just after the end of the Korean Conflict. He married Rosemary Lloyd in Dowagiac on July 29, 1977. John had worked as a machinist for the Overton Machine Co. John was married to Billie Williams and together they had two children, but later divorced. John was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, American Legion and The Dowagiac Moose Lodge.
In addition to his parents and his wife, John was predeceased by his siblings, Chester J. Murphy and Edith Peters, and a nephew, Denny Peters.
John is survived by a son, Michael (Ruth) Murphy, Niles, MI; a daughter, Sheila (Ted) True, Niles, MI; a step-son, Larry (Connie) Lloyd, Buchanan, MI and a special nephew, John (Debbie) Peters, Dowagiac, MI. He is also survived by nine grandchildren, John, Sara, Ted, Toni, Diane, Lisa, Laura, Cheryl and Brian and twenty, great grandchildren.
