Steve Johnson, 43, of Dowagiac, MI passed away on Saturday, November 5, 2016 at Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo, with his family at his side.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00 PM, Sunday, November 13, 2016 at Sacred Heart of Mary Cemetery, 51841 Leach Rd, Dowagiac. Military Honors will be provided by the Dowagiac VFW post #1855. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the family in care of his wife Julie. Steve was born on January 10, 1973 in South Bend, IN, to Roy Joe Johnson and Glenna (Merrill) Bennett. He graduated from Dowagiac High School in 1991. Steve then went on to proudly serve his country in the United States Army and was honorably discharged in 1999. On December 12, 2008 he married Julie Stephenson in Dowagiac. He worked as a lineman for Comcast Cable for over twenty years and also assisted his wife at her landmark, downtown store, Caruso’s Candy & Soda Shop. Steve was a member of Dowagiac Moose Lodge #993 and Dowagiac VFW Post #1855.
Steve is survived by his wife Julie Johnson of Dowagiac; son Zachary Johnson of Dowagiac; step-son, Brandon (Brittany) Sparks of Owasso, OK; step-daughter,Cassie Sparks of Dowagiac; sister Melissa Johnson of Dowagiac; special cousin Jason (Kerri) Bell of Indianapolis, IN and three granddaughters Quianna Murray, Blakelee Sparks and Brystol Sparks along with several nieces and nephews.
Steve is preceded by his parents and his brother, Darren Johnson.
