Georgiene Mullard, 72, of Dowagiac, passed away quietly and peacefully on Saturday, December 24th, 2016 at Bronson Methodist Hospital after a short illness.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 6:00 P.M. on Monday, January 2, 2017 at Clark Chapel & Cremation Services, 405 Center St, Dowagiac. Friends may visit with the family from 5:00 until the time of the service. Memorials may be made to Fernwood Nature Center or to the Cure Alzheimer’s Fund. Georgiene was born on April 6th, 1944 to Irvine Parmater Russell and Dorothy Maxine Jurgenson Russell in Dowagiac, where she grew up. She was married to Leonard Howard Mullard on October 4th, 1968. They spent many happy years together on Colby Street in Dowagiac. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband. She is survived by her daughters, Sarah Lynn Mullard-Dickman (Ronald), of Lawton, and Anne Marie Mullard-Springsteen (Neil), of Marcellus; three grandchildren, Lucas and Amelia Dickman and Levi Springsteen; a brother, James Pullin (Ann), of Winter Park, Florida; a sister, Mary Ann Cerney (Ralph), of Umatilla, Florida; a sister-in-law, Ursula Barr (Joseph), of Dowagiac, several nieces and nephews, and many cousins.
Georgiene was a member of the Dowagiac Union High School class of 1962 and attended Southwestern Michigan College where she graduated with a Practical Nursing Certificate in 1967. She devoted her life to raising her daughters as a single mother following her husband’s death when the girls were very young. Later in life, she returned to work. She retired in 2010 from Cass County Medical Care Facility where she worked as an Activities Aide for several years.
Georgiene was a kind and loving friend, mother, grandmother, and sister. She had a beautiful sense of humor. Georgiene loved spending time with all of her family, especially with her grandchildren. She had many fond memories of trips to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, dining with friends on Fridays, Sunday suppers with her immediate family and baking with the grandchildren.
Georgiene’s gentle soul, contagious smile and beautiful spirit will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
