LeRoy Nelson Walker, 82, formerly of Dowagiac, passed away on Wednesday, January 25, 2017 at Senior Care of Wurzbach in San Antonio, TX. Celebration of Life Service will be held 2:00 PM, Friday, February 3, 2017 at Clark Chapel & Cremations Services, 405 Center St., Dowagiac, MI with Rev. Mitchell officiating. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Dowagiac. Visitation will be from 12:00 PM until 2:00 PM prior to the service at the funeral home. LeRoy was born on May 12, 1934 in Chicago, IL to Robert M. & Nellie (Jones) Walker who preceded him in death. He graduated from DuSable High School in Chicago, IL at the age of 18. LeRoy served his country in the United States Air Force from 1952 – 1954 and served in the Korean War. In 1964 he married Earlie Mae Jennings in Dowagiac, MI. LeRoy was a loving husband, a devoted father dedicated to his family and a member of Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Dowagiac, Michigan. Leroy’s greatest love was spending time with his family. Whether he was watching his children and grandchildren play sports, fishing with them, teaching them to play handball, telling stories from his time in the military and stories about his father, LeRoy was all about family. If his children got themselves into trouble, he was the first one there to help them out of it. Leroy was employed with Clark Equipment Company in Buchanan, MI. He later became employed with the Cass County Road Commission on February 17, 1978 as a Heavy Equipment Operator and retired May 17, 1996. Leroy enjoyed sports and watching the Chicago Bears and the Pittsburg Steelers. He was an avid news buff always keeping up with current events. Leroy didn’t mince words; he was a “tell it like it is kind of guy”. He is preceded in death by; a brother, Robert Nelson Walker, his son Monroe Nelson Walker, his wife, Earlie Mae Walker, and a God brother, Fred Curry. LeRoy is survived by his children Bill Brooks of Dowagiac, MI; Annette (James) Peoples of Elkhart, IN; Carrie Brooks of Benton Harbor, MI; Gloria (Harvey) Brooks-Vaughn of Oak Park, MI; James Brooks of Griffin, GA; Karen Brooks of Benton Harbor, MI; Michael “Tony” Brooks of Niles, MI; LeRoy (Amanda Kelley) Walker, Jr. of College Park, GA; Kattiria “Kitty” Walker of Washington DC; Sheila (Donald) Adams of San Antonio, TX; grandchildren Armando Caesar; Jaimie Brooks; Adriza Caesar; Adrima Caesar; Chanaka Brooks; Kattiria Garvin; Stevie Brooks; Justin Brooks; Lanesha Peoples; Valencia Walker; Denzel Brooks; Monroe Walker; Leroy Walker; Jasmine Adams; Jairdan Walker-Chambers; Leah Adams; Donald Brooks; Jermaine Brooks; and Amani Walker; eight great grandchildren; a God son Eugene Lanydon of Detroit, MI and God daughter Barbara Ann Jones of Dowagiac, MI; three nephews: Robert Walker, Kevin Walker and Michael Curry and nieces: Karen Corks and Lori Ann Hunt.
