Sophia Stanley

Sophia “Sophie” Stanley, 103, of Dowagiac, passed away, Sunday, April 16, 2017 at Heartland of Knollview in Muskegon, MI.  Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, April 21, 2017 at Holy Maternity Catholic Church, 210 N. Front St., Dowagiac, MI with Father Richard Altine officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.  Friends may visit with the family from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM at the church.  Memorial donations may be made to Holy Maternity Catholic Church. Those wishing to sign Sophie’s Memory book online may do so at www.clarkch.com.  Sophie was born June 6, 1913 in Muskegon, MI to John & Catherine (Slecziak) Dabrowski. She attended St. Michael’s School in Muskegon. On April 28, 1934 she married Walter Stanley in Muskegon. Sophie enjoyed knitting, reading and telling stories. One of her greatest joys was cooking Easter dinner for her family. She loved playing poker and other card games, most of all she loved her family.  Sophie is survived by her daughter, Frances (Neal) Thorstenson of Muskegon, MI; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Walter; daughter Sophia Wetzler and eight siblings.
