Jewel's Obituary
Jewel E Backus, 69, of Niles, passed away on Sunday, October 22, 2017, at Rush Hospital -Hospice in Chicago.
A Celebration of Life Service will take place on Saturday, November 4, 2017 at 3:00 PM at her son, Carl’s home, 23135 Hospital St., Cassopolis. Memorial contributions may be made to the family in care of Ila Hunt. Those wishing to leave an online condolence may do at www.clarkch.com.
Jewel was born on February 3, 1948, in Niles, to David Eugene and Ila Jerrol (Nelson) Coultas. She graduated from Des Moines Technical High School in 1966. Jewel started working at Bosch in 1974 as a machine operator and was employed there for 31 years before retiring in 2005. She loved photography, writing books and Drag Racing. Jewel could always be found watching an episode of her favorite show, CSI. Most of all, Jewel love her family and friends and will be missed by all who knew her.
Jewel is survived by her children, Ila (Steven) Hunt of Cassopolis, Stevi (Jerry) Smith of Dowagiac, Carl (Amy) Backus of Cassopolis and Shelly (Burton) Dodd of Dowagiac; 9 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren and one on the way and siblings Carrie, Gene and Angie.
Jewel was preceded in death by her parents and sister Ila.
