Gunnar D. Schar

Gunnar D. Schar, 80, of Dowagiac, passed away at Lakeland Medical Center in Watervliet, MI on Sunday, December 24, 2017. Services are at a later date and his final resting place will be at Ft. Custer National Cemetery in Augusta, MI. Arrangements have been entrusted to Clark Chapel in Dowagiac, MI. Gunnar was born in Chicago, IL on January 1, 1937 to the late Otto and Elin (Anderson) Schar. He served his country while in the U.S. Army from November 1956 thru December 1958. On October 14, 1967 in Chicago he married Rosemarie Kawalec. They enjoyed 50 years of marriage this past October. Gunnar was a general contractor having owned Strictly Crete Construction in Sister Lakes for many years. He was a member of the VFW in Dowagiac; a Sister Lakes Fireman; loved fishing; and was an avid animal lover. Memorial contributions may be made to the VFW or to the ASPCA. Gunnar is survived by his wife Rosemarie; his children – Margaret Schar of Brookfield, IL, Glenn Meachum of Las Vegas, NV, Gunnar Schar of Dowagiac and Kjelldon Schar of Dowagiac; two grandchildren – Anthony and Elin; and two great grandchildren – Trenton and Sophia.
