Martha's Obituary

Martha Mae (Sandlin) Carmichael, 90, of Niles, passed away Sunday, January 7, 2018 at Memorial Hospital in South Bend, IN. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, January 10 at Pokagon Methodist Church with Pastor Brenda Gordon officiating. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 11:00 A.M. until 1:00 P.M. Martha was born July 14, 1927 in Austinville, AL to Ola Clyde & Lona Amanda (Moss) Sandlin. She moved from Alabama in the early 1950’s, and then to Hobbs, NM in the 1970’s. She made her living working in Home Care. Martha loved traveling to New Mexico. She was fearless and lived life to the fullest. Surviving Martha are her children Sherry (Donald) Lowery of Decatur, AL, Darlene Clardy (Oscar) Steele of Evarts, KY, Gerald (Lavonda) Northrop of Niles, MI, Linda Sturgill and Bill Hartline of Dowagiac, MI and Sandra (Robert) Mosier of Niles, MI; grandchildren Babette Shedd and Donnie (Carmen) Lowery of Decatur, AL, Norman Terry and Martina McFarland of Chandler, AZ, Lela (David) Moreau of Sautee Nacoochee, GA, Tammy McLain and Zachary Steele of Evarts, KY, Oscar Steele of Hendersonville, TN, Jason (Marie) Sturgill of Toccoa, GA, Kyndra Sturgill of Dowagiac, MI and Kelsey Mosier of Niles, MI; great-grandchildren Gabrielle Shedd and Raven Lowery of Decatur, AL, Tommy Gifford of Belvidere, TN, Chase Gifford of Nashville, TN, Ariel Brown, Rachel (Olivia) McLain and Addison McLain all of Evarts, KY, Jarett (Meredith) Ford of Kileen, Fort Hood, TX, Kylie Sturgill of Toccoa, GA, Ariya Newell of Buchanan, MI, Honesty Jaynes and Elle-Asia Nerio of Dowagiac, MI, and twins Alejandro and Alejandra Nerio of Donna, TX; great-great-grandchildren Carlie Kennedy of Evarts, KY, Alyssa Van Winkle and Mark Van Winkle of Maynardville, TN, Arabella Ford of Harlan, KY, Tripp Ford of Kileen, Fort Hood, TX and Axel Boggs of Evarts, KY; and numerous nieces and nephews. Martha was preceded in death by her parents; former husband Joseph Northrop; three sisters and one brother.
