Phillip “Phil” Wayne Deuel, Sr., 72, passed away on Monday, July 30, 2018 at Borgess Medical Center – Kalamazoo with his son by his side. A Celebration of Life Service will take place on Monday, August 6, 2018 at 12 PM at Clark Chapel, 405 Center St., Dowagiac, with Deacon Art Morsaw officiating. Burial will follow the service at South Wayne Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 10 AM until the time of the service at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to West Michigan Cancer Center & Institute for Blood Disorders. Those wishing to leave an online condolence may do so at www.clarkch.com. Phil was born on December 23, 1945 in Dowagiac to DeWitt & Lena (Edmond) Deuel. For over 40 years, he worked for and retired from SPX Contech. Phil enjoyed fishing, hunting and whistling while he cooked. He was an avid fan of the Detroit Tigers, University of Michigan football team and the Detroit Lions. Most of all, Phil loved spending time with his family talking and laughing. He cherished time spent with his grandchildren whether it was going fishing, watching them play various sports or just giving them a ride to school. He was a wonderful man and will be missed by all who knew him. Phil is survived by his children, Phillip, Jr. (Jennifer) Deuel of Dowagiac and Karen (Tad) Swoape of Elkart, IN; grandchildren, Stephany (Cody) Boal, Tyler and Alexis Deuel; great-grandchildren, Evylen and Vivyen Boal; siblings, Jerry (Mary Lou), Joyce (Bob), Judy (Dennis) and Margaret (Jerry); and former spouse, Martha McConnell. Phil was preceded in death by his parents, DeWitt and Lena; and siblings, Russell, Paul, Faye, Thelma, Barbara and Doris.
