Raymond R. Ferrier, Sr., 77, of Dowagiac, passed away on Friday, August 24, 2018, at Borgess Medical Center, Kalamazoo.
A celebration of life service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, August 30, 2018, at Clark Chapel, 405 Center St., Dowagiac, MI with Pastor Stacey Wilder officiating. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery, Dowagiac. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, August 29, 2018, also at the funeral home. Ray was born on March 24, 1941, to Eugene and Hazel Ferrier in Dowagiac, MI. He graduated from Dowagiac High School in 1960. On March 31, 1961, he married Carol Johnson. Ray worked at Clark Equipment Co. in Benton Harbor, Davis Products in Dowagiac and for nearly 20 years at Borgess Lee Memorial Hospital. He was an avid fisherman and Chicago Sports fan. Ray coached youth baseball for 40 years and youth football for several years as well. He loved kids, every year Ray would take his youth baseball team to a Chicago Cubs game. He was also active in Athletic Boosters for many years. Ray wouldn’t miss a Dowagiac High School football game, home or away. He was a selfless man and most of all, he cherished his family.
Ray is survived by his wife of 57 years, Carol Ferrier; children, Raymond (RaiAnn) Ferrier, Jr., Jeff Ferrier, Thomas Ferrier and Robin (Danny) Mathews; grandchildren, Nicholas (Lynnea) Ferrier, Julia Ferrier, Michelle Ferrier, Bethanie Mathews, Kalionna Mathews and Yzabelle Mathews; great-grandaughter, Jersey Ferrier and sister, Barbara Zinn. He was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene and Hazel Ferrier and brothers, Daniel, Eugene, William, Robert, Donald, Carl, Larry and Melvin.
