Patricia “Pat” Joanis, 81, of Dowagiac, passed away, Sunday, September 16, 2018 at Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo.
A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held from 2:00 until 4:00 P.M. Sunday, September 23, 2018 at Clark Chapel, 405 Center St., Dowagiac. Private burial will take place at Riverside Cemetery in Dowagiac. Pat was born April 22, 1937 in Dowagiac to Kenneth & Barbara (Townsend) Gard. She graduated from Dowagiac Union High School, Class of 1955 and on April 20, 1957, she married Ronald Joanis in Dowagiac. Pat devoted her life to caring for her family. She was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church where she sang in the choir. Pat enjoyed collecting antique glass, flower gardening, bird watching, playing Solitare, crossword puzzles, playing the piano and organ, sewing, knitting, dancing, and especially spending time with her grandchildren. She also enjoyed watching and following the Detroit Tigers & Red Wings.
Pat is survived by her husband Ronald; two sons-David (Sue) Joanis of Grant, MI, Bruce (Doris) Joanis of Niles, MI; four grandchildren-Christina (Frank Barker) Mitchell, Brandon (Angela) Mitchell, Justin (Lauren) Joanis, Mathew Joanis; nine great-grandchildren-Gavin Joanis, Logan Joanis, Mason Joanis, Sydney Joanis, Finneas Mitchell, Chayce Mitchell, Jonas Mitchell, Violette Mitchell, Rebecca (Mark Perez) Rupe; two great-great-grandchildren-Arianna Gann, & Marcella-due in November; two sisters and her brother-Carolyn Davis, Connie (Bill) Ellerbrook and Don (Carol) Gard-all of Dowagiac; and several nieces & nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother-in-law Ted Davis, and a great-grandson Frank “Bud” Barker.
