Daniel's Obituary

Daniel Christopher Tyria, 39, of Decatur, passed away Friday, October 13, 2017.  A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, October 18, 2017 at First Reformed Church, 319 W. Delaware, Decatur, with Rev. Mark Hofstra officiating. Burial will follow at Charleston Cemetery in Volinia Township.  Friends may visit with the family from 4:00 until 7:00 P.M. Tuesday at Newell Chapel, 83313 M51, Decatur.  Memorial donations in Daniel’s name may be made to Wings of God in Paw Paw.  Those wishing to sign Daniel’s Memory Book online may do so at www.newellchapel.com.  Daniel was born May 18, 1978 in Kalamazoo to Dan & Ester “Cookie” (Mata) Tyria. Daniel earned his GED and an Associate’s Degree in Horticulture.  He made a life-long career of tree service, starting with J.C & Sons in Decatur, and for the last eight years with Asplundh Tree Service.  On June 8, 2012, he married the former April Jordan in Paw Paw.  Daniel was a member of the First Reformed Church in Decatur. He was very proud of the fact that on August 27 he celebrated eight years of being sober.  He was a living testimony that you can turn your life around from addiction.  Daniel was a group leader at Celebrate Recovery.  He was a man with a huge heart who was very kind, caring & giving.  He cherished the time spent with his family, and enjoyed hunting, fishing & anything outdoors.  Daniel is survived by his wife April; his children-Seth Learman, Calista & Jaylee Smith, Cameron & Kayla Church, James Smith, Kyler Tyria, Naomi Mroczek & Patience Tyria; his father & step-mother Dan (Linda) Tyria of Decatur; his mother & step-father Ester “Cookie” (Timothy) Stover of Decatur; five brothers-Darren (Kathy) Tyria of Dowagiac, Scott Stover of San Diego, Dustin & Zach Tyria of Decatur, Luke Stover of Mattawan; numerous nieces & nephews; his grandparents-Baudelio & Maria Luiza Mata of Leslie, MI, Byron & Joyce Stover of Paw Paw, Margaret Ringle of Marcellus; and his canine companion Jessi.
