Ruby Martens

Ruby Martens, 90, of Decatur, passed away Friday August 25, 2017 at Hendrickson House in Decatur. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday at the Newell Chapel 83313 M-51 Decatur, MI; officiated by Rev. Heflin.  Burial to follow at Hamilton Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 – 7:00 PM Tuesday at the Newell Chapel.  Memorials may be made to Kairos Dwelling 2945 Gull Road Kalamazoo, MI 49048. Friends wishing to sign the guestbook may do so at www.newellchapel.com Ruby was born in Bertin Creek, Kentucky; on October 18, 1926 to William & Virginia (Dove) Shadrick. On February 28, 1953, she married Leonard A. Marten in Chicago IL. During her life, she drove school bus for Chicago Public Schools and she was known as “Granny” because of the way she took care of her family and all their friends; she would never turn anyone away. She is survived by 2 sons, William (Sylvia) Robinson and Richard (Darlene) Martens; 4 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; and a sister Virginia Martens.   She was preceded in death by her husband Leonard in 2006; 2 sons, Larry Robinson and Leonard Martens; and granddaughter Alicia Robinson
