Shirley's Obituary

Shirley M. Miller, 81, of Decatur, passed away, September 20, 2017, at Borgess Hospital in Kalamazoo surrounded by her family. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00 PM, on Sunday, September 24, 2017, at her Son, Howard’s home 79555 Stapleton Rd., Decatur. Memorial contributions may be made to the Autism Society of Michigan or Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia Foundation-CHERUBS. Those wishing to sign Shirley’s guestbook may do so online at www.newellchapel.com. Shirley was born July 9, 1936 in Ohio to Howard Longfellow and she was raised by her step-mother Esther. She worked for the Original Pancake House in South Bend for 32 years before retirement. Shirley was known as a selfless person, always worried about everyone but herself. She loved watching the Food Network Channel and bird watching, except for those darn squirrels. Shirley enjoyed baking and you could always expect your favorite dessert for your birthday. Most of all she loved spending time with her family and will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Shirley is survived by her children Sherry (Jeff) Bingham, Tony (Cheryl) Miller, Howard (Holly) Miller and Linda (Chuck) Stingley; grandchildren, Matt Sheline, Tony (Stacey) Miller, Chucky Stingley, Justin (Heather) Miller, Amanda (Kyle Brown) Stingley, Jake Miller, Hannah Miller and James Gammons; great-grandchildren, Matt Sheline, Alexis Hartman Miller, Mckenzie Miller, Iris Stingley, Willow Brown and Baylee Miller and sister Sharon Smith. She was preceded in death by her parents; great-grandson Hunter Miller and brothers Howard Longfellow and Stanley Longfellow.
