Dominic Joseph Sienkiewicz, 99, of Decatur, MI passed away Friday, April 6, 2018 at the loving home of his daughter, Marianne, with his entire family at his side. A Mass will be celebrated 11:00 A.M., Saturday, April 28, 2018 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Decatur, with the rosary recited at 10:30 A.M. Memorials may be made to Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan, 222 N. Kalamazoo, Suite 100, Kalamazoo, MI 49007. Those wishing to share a memory of Dominic online may do so at www.newellchapel.com Dominic was born July 24, 1918 in Chicago, IL to Julius & Julia (Drabek) Sienkiewicz. He was a WWII Veteran who served his country in the United States Army Air Corps from 1942 until 1945. On May 17, 1947 he married Sophie Mroczek, who remains the love of his life after 70 years together. Together they raised four girls who were the light of his life. Dominic was employed as a woodworker in Chicago before moving to Decatur and later worked at Cree Coach in Marcellus. He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church and life time member of the VFW 6248 in Decatur. He was a selfless father and a true example of “fatherhood.” He had a great love for his family, and a special love for Paul and Marianne and their family, who cared for him in his final years. He had a great sense of humor and loved to laugh and to make other people laugh. His children, grandchildren and great grandchildren always brought joy to his life even to the very end. His love for life, happiness and kindness even extended to Martha his caregiver who came into his life during his last year. The fun, joy and laughter they shared with each other was special to them both. In his life time, he enjoyed reading, wood working, bird watching, crossword puzzles, word search and was a history buff. Dominic is survived by his wife Sophie; daughters Marianne (Paul) Lamoreaux, Dolly (Richard) Overton, Diane (Dan) Rajzer and Patty (Phil) Hover; 14 grandchildren; many great grandchildren; and caregiver and adopted member of the family, Martha Garza. Dominic was preceded in death by his parents and brother Rev. Matt Sienkiewicz.
