Evelyn “Tommy” H. Snyder, 94, resident of Decatur, MI and regular snowbird to Englewood, FL, passed away on Monday, August 27, 2018, in Port Charlotte, FL.
A Celebration of Life Service will take place at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, September 4, 2018 at Newell Chapel, 83313 M51, Decatur, with Pastor James Abshagan officiating, Burial will follow at Charleston Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family beginning at 10:00 a.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Glenn & Evelyn Snyder Scholarship Fund, Decatur High School. Tommy, as she was nicknamed by her father, was born on November 4, 1923 in Lawton, to Harley & Mary (Marshall) Mohney. She graduated from Lawton High School and continued her education by enrolling in the Michigan State University Agricultural College. On November 20, 1944, in Newburgh, NY, Tommy married the love of her life, Glenn K. Snyder. They were happily married for 65 years before his passing in 2009. Tommy enjoyed gardening, farming, fishing, playing bridge and BINGO, and hunting for shark’s teeth in Florida and mushrooms in Michigan. She also loved spending time with her family.
Tommy is survived by her daughters, Karen (Edward) Perrine of Kalamazoo and Deborah “Debbie” (Lindsay) Harrington of Punta Gorda, FL; grandchildren, Sara (Christopher) Pegg, Annette (Haziel) Bamberger, Brian (Christina) Stuut, and Christopher (Linda) Stuut; nine great-grandchildren; sister, Dorothy Howard, and her very special caregiver, companion and niece, Lori O’Connor.
Tommy was preceded in death by her parents, Harley & Mary; husband, Glenn; brother, Marshall Mohney, sisters Celesta “Bobbie” Packer and Grace Mohney, and granddaughter, Laura Perrine Maumus.
