James Ewald Berkholz

James E. Berkholz, 75, of Berrien Springs, MI passed away Tuesday, September 10, 2013 at Lakeland Regional Medical Center in St. Joseph, MI. James was born April 27, 1938 in St. Joseph, MI to Ewald & Clara (Zelmer). Upon graduating from High School he joined the United States Navy on March 1, 1958 proudly serving for his Country until honorably being discharged on October 10, 1961. James attended vocational school receiving education in the tool and die industry where he worked for 30 plus years retiring from Tyler Refrigeration. Jim was an active sportsman early and throughout his life, enjoying the outdoors. In later years he was an avid fisherman and known to his grandchildren as Grandpa Jim. James is survived by his daughters Joy Lausch of St. Joseph, Sherri (Rais) Khan of Lakeland, FL and son Scott Berkholz of White Bear Lake, MN, 5 grandchildren, brother Jerry (Jan) Berkholz of Watervliet, sisters Diane(Jim) Granlund of Berrien Springs, Delores (Frank) Gaul of Eau Claire, Susan(Michael) Davis of Paw Paw and Kathleen (Craig) Gionta of Orlando, FL; and significant other Lana Haines of Pleasant Prairie, WI. He was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers Thomas Berkholz and David Berkholz. To honor Jim’s wishes there will be no funeral services held.
