Dell Newstrom, 83, of Berrien Springs, passed away Friday, November 01, 2013 at Lakeland Regional Medical Center in St. Joseph. A Celebration of Life Service will be held 5:00 P.M. Tuesday, November 5, 2013 at Heritage Chapel, 8747 US 31, Berrien Springs, with Reverend Douglas Adams officiating. Military Rites to be provided by the American Legion Post 85 following the service. Inurnment will take place at a later date at Rose Hill Cemetery. Friends may visit from 4:00 – 5:00 P.M., Tuesday, November 5, 2013 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church in Berrien Springs, Hospice at Home or Wounded Warrior Project. Those wishing to sign Dell’s guestbook may do so online at www.heritage-chapel.com. Dell was born February 5, 1930 in St. Paul, MN to Roy & Eleanor (Thompson) Newstrom. He was a graduate of Berrien Springs High School in 1949. On September 2, 1950 he married Catherine Dinges in Baroda, MI. Dell joined the United States Marine Corp. on March 19, 1952, serving his country in the Korean War and receiving the National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal and a Bronze Star. He was honorably discharged on March 9, 1954. Dell worked as a printer at Birch printing and Clark Equipment, he then owned and operated DKN Graphic Arts Services in Berrien Springs for 10 years. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, American Legion Post 85, and the VFW Post 4952. Dell enjoyed golfing, hunting and watching Notre Dame Football. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years Catherine, daughters Trisha (Rich) Bolin of Niles, Lisa Newstrom of South Bend, and Debbie (Jack) Kelly of South Bend; granddaughters Lyndsey (Mitch) Thompson and Erica Bolin, both of Niles and great grandchildren Nickolas and Paige Devens. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Dick Madson and sister Joan Schneider.
