Ivy's Obituary

Ivy Magellan Freeman, 94, formerly of Berrien Springs, MI, passed away in her sleep on Friday, September 15, 2017 at home with her loving nieces/daughters, Wendy and Lauren, by her side. Arrangements have been entrusted to Heritage Chapel in Berrien Springs. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on September 24, 2017 at 1:00 PM, at Berrien Springs Village Seventh-Day Adventist Church located at 635 Saint Joseph Ave. with Pastor Bruce Hayward officiating. Private burial will take place at Rose Hill Cemetery in Berrien Springs on Friday at 10:00 AM, September 22, 2017.  Memorials may be made to The Seventh-Day Adventist Village Elementary School Scholarship Fund. Those wishing to share a memory of Ivy online may do so at www.heritage-chapel.com Ivy was born October 9, 1922 in Traverse City, MI to William and Lillian (Drown) Freeman. She was a devoted, life-long member of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church working as a secretary and missionary for the denomination from 1937 until she retired.   During her employment, she traveled extensively including Singapore and Cuba doing missionary work.  After her sister, Berniece passed away, Ivy took on the responsibility of raising her nieces, Wendy, age 6 ½ and Lauren age 9.  She was always there for her family, coworkers, friends or anyone who she met. In her spare time, Ivy enjoyed 3abn Broadcasting Network, playing the piano and knitting – giving sweaters to family and friends.  She also had a love for flowers of all kinds.  Ivy had a close relationship with God.  She would say, “God is Good” and how good he was to her all her life. Ivy is survived by her sister, Beverly Oliver of Berrien Springs; niece/daughter: Lauren (Dan) Sutton of Bridgman and niece/daughter: Wendy Hall of Collegedale, TN; special/grandchildren (Lauren), Victoria Hole, Virginia Rupert, April Simmons, Carol Lockwitz, and John Sutton; special/grandchildren (Wendy), Tabitha Culver and Lor’Annah Hall; and also survived by 10 special/great grandchildren: Lia Culver, Matthew Hall, Logan Hole, Cameron Rupert, Riley Gloe, Amarah Yardley, Ivy Hole, Makenna Simmons, Aliyah Lockwitz and Lucas Lockwitz . She was preceded in death by her parents and sisters Berniece Wilkins, Ruby Thompson, and brother Gene Freeman and special/grandchild Cory Hall.
