Charles J. Long

Rev. Charles J. Long, 87, of Berrien Springs, went to meet his Lord & Savior Jesus Christ, Wednesday, November 8, 2017 at his home.   A Celebration of Life Eternal will be held 11:00 A.M. Monday at Heritage Chapel, 8747 US 31, Berrien Springs, with Rev. Ron Smith officiating. Burial will follow at North Shore Memory Gardens in Hagar Shores.  Friends may visit with the family from 2:00 until 4:00 P.M. Sunday at the funeral home.  Memorials may be made to Hope Hill Children’s Home or St. Jude Children’s Hospital.  Those wishing to sign Charles’ Memory Book online may do so at www.heritage-chapel.com.   Charles was born June 19, 1930 in Lima, Ohio to Frank & Hazel (Belcher) Long. He graduated from Shawnee High School and attended Anderson College in Anderson, Indiana.  Charles served his country in the US Army during the Korean War as a Military Police Officer.  On March 17, 1953 he married the former Rosine Corey in Lima, Ohio.  Charles served the Lord as a minister with Anderson, Indiana based Church of God.  Rev. Long served congregations as Senior Pastor, and sometimes Youth Pastor and Worship Leader in Hayden, MO; Houston, MO; St. Marys, OH; Muncie, IN; Benton Heights, MI; the Benton Harbor Ministries; and retired from Portage, MI in 1980.  He was a member of Hope Community Church in Niles, and the Berrien County Korean Veterans Association. He was a former member of both the Crystal Springs and Baroda Church of God. He devoted his life to serving The Lord.  In his free time, Charles enjoyed classic cars, building, carpentry and electrical work and model trains.  Charles is survived by his wife of 64 years, Rosine; his children-Charles D. (Sara) Long of St. Joseph, Cheryl (Darrell) Hosey of Leeds, Alabama, Cindy (David) Roeder of Decatur, MI; and beloved nephews & nieces; and grandchildren-Bradley Long & Kristi Long. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers-Richard Long & James Long.
