Nevin Rice

Nevin Alan Rice, 76, of Niles, MI, passed away on November 1, 2017 at Hanson Hospice Center in Stevensville, MI. Arrangements have been entrusted to Heritage Chapel in Berrien Springs 269-471-2700. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1:00 P.M., Sunday, November 5,at Berrien Springs Village Seventh-Day Adventist Church, 635 St. Joseph Ave. with Pastor Ron Kelly officiating. Friends may visit with the family from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM Sunday at the Church. Memorials may be made in Nevin’s name to Your Story Hour. Those wishing to share a memory of Nevin online may do so at www.heritage-chapel.com.  Nevin was born on January 31, 1941 to Lawrence and Martha (Avery) Rice in Charlotte, MI. He graduated from Adelphian Academy and continued his education at Andrews University and Michigan State University earning his Master’s degree in Education.  Nevin married the love of his life, Lana Jean Buelow, on August 16, 1964 in Oshkosh, WI.  He taught school at Grand Ledge in Michigan and the Georgia Cumberland Academy.  Later he drove for Careful Transit, Horizon Transport and bus for the Berrien Springs Public Schools.  He also taught driver’s education for Andrews Academy, Lawrence and Edwardsburg Schools. He enjoyed birding, gardening, going to classic car shows, watching NASCARand his favorite driver, Jeff Gordon, and taking his family to sporting events. Nevin’s greatest love was for Jesus and spending time with his church family.  Nevin is survived by his wife, Lana;sons, Jefferson (Julie) Rice and Timothy (Rachele) Rice; grandchildren, Ashley (C.J. Jones) Richmond, Christopher (Jossie) Rice, Cooper Rice and Cortland Rice; great-grandson, Liam Jones; many step-grandchildren and step great-grandchildren; brothers Lawrence Rice, Jr., and LaVern (Linda) Rice; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded by his parents; sister, Lenna Mae MacIvor and sister-in-law, Delores Rice.
