Ernesto Y. Medina, M. D., 79, of Berrien Springs, MI, passed to his rest on Tuesday, September 4, 2018 at Lakeland Regional Medical Center, St. Joseph. A Celebration of Life will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, Sept 14. 2018 at Pioneer Memorial Church of the Seventh-day Adventist on the campus of Andrews University at Berrien Springs, MI. This will be followed by a Fellowship Dinner at 1PM hosted by the Fil-Am church congregation at 8454 Kephart Lane, Berrien Springs. An “open reflection” segment will be done during the luncheon: tributes, share your remembrances of him, funny stories with or about him, beautiful and unforgettable moments in your friendship or just a brief encounter that stands out in your mind. Those wishing to express their condolences in person may do so during or after the Dinner or at their home at 8545 Kephart Lane. Ernesto was born on April 6, 1939 to Pastor and Alberta Yomo Medina in Ozamis, Philppines. He graduated from Manila Central Medical School with a Doctor of Medicine Diploma as a full scholar. He married Loida Sarno, his classmate in medical school right after their Internship in the Philippines and came to the United States in 1965. Ernesto had Private practices in Coloma, Berrien Springs, Three Oaks and finally owned his Urgent Care Clinic at Benton Harbor which he ran until forced to retire because of his Stroke in 2001. His wife took over since till the present. He enjoyed Golf, Tennis, Pool, Chess and Travel. His love and devotion for his family is surpassed only by His love for His God. He loved reading and memorizing chapters and passages from the Bible. His favorite chapter was Romans 8, memorized. He enjoyed singing and missed playing the piano most when he suffered a CVA in 2001. Ernesto is survived by his wife, Loida Sarno ; Children: Ernesto Paul (Keri Kuniyoshi), Kimberly Jo Knowlton (Corey), Christopher Alvin (Akiko Yokoyama), and Lesley Jean Taylor (Michael); Grandchildren: Summer Alyssa Medina, Joshua Taylor , Jacob Christian and Javan Corey Knowlton, Jonah Christopher and Leiya Grace Medina, Sydney Ava and Sofia Grace Taylor. He is the youngest of 12 children. His only surviving siblings are Benjaminita Ong, Echiquita Fiel and preceded in death by 9 other siblings.
